The Other Kids

I've finished my first semester of sophomore year!!! Here's one of the quick exercises I did in my drawing class! It's a mix of collage, markers, and colored pencils. 

Les Femmes

Here are 2 of the digital illustrations I did tonight! I used the tablet to color their skin and the base of their hair. Afterwards I manipulated my print designs on the figures. I've gotten better at the tablet! The figures are starting to come together now and the shadows as well as the makeup look more natural now. 

Wish me luck next week! It's crit week and after that WINTER BREAK!!

Here are some ad campaigns that I really like for AW11/12! I love the play of light in the McQueen ad and the movement in the garments in all the shots.

Here's the Lanvin campaign video which I found to be hilarious! Watch to see the ending! I've learned a lot from their dance skills!

Where We Are

Today I did some renderings in photoshop using the Wacom tablet. I think I improved with coloring the skin and the hair. Then I proceeded to fill my figures with the print designs I developed. When I first started using the tablet I was really struggling with it but after using it to render my figures I'm beginning to become comfortable with it. But, yes I still prefer hand drawn and colored figures. I feel that it's more personal since I'm physically illustrating on paper; there's just a more emotional relationship between my hand and the medium. Watch for more and better digital fashion illustrations soon! 

New Shoes

I finally finished my shoe today!! It's sporty and good for the Spring Season with the mesh windows. Your feet will be able to breathe!

Paint It

Hope Thanksgiving was fun for everyone! I'm pretty excited since I got to play with a Wacom tablet for the first time today! It's much different than rendering with markers but the effect is quite interesting! Not bad for a first time right? I'll practice some more before I render the figures for my visual class. I need to figure out this hair! The girls look they went to a hole in the wall salon and got garish highlights from a box!

With the opening of Gaga's Workshop this week I think the Upper East Side's been a bit hectic. There's a bunch of cool stuff like a Lady Gaga candle bust, stockings in the form of shoes as well as unicorns, and little monster toys! While browsing through WGSN and Stylesight I found these images which reminded me of her born this way video. There's such an interesting narrative and a lot of symmetry in the video. The visual imagery is beautiful!

Follow Through

Here's a muslin of the skirt I'm working on for my final project!! I need to iron it.. there's just so many creases I see. This weekend I tried to get my fabric samples and mock ups finished but there's always so much to do and not enough time. 

After that I took the prints I superimposed my print designs on the skirt sample I made up and I really like it on my skirt! Maybe I should get them printed on fabric. I'm going to continue playing with the print sizing on the skirt. 

I'm so excited though! I have a two day school week this week and then it's Thanksgiving!! Happy holidays everyone!

I've been working on developing more visually interesting print designs. What do you think? I'm also trying to incorporate some of them into my Body as Narrative collection for Integrated Studio. When I compare them to my other prints I'm very happy to see my improvement.

Bubble! I really have an urge to play with bubbles after a rainy day in NYC. They're so dainty and free, I just love the way they float around in the air. 

Tie Me Down

Here's the shirt I made for my Body as Canvas project. For this sewing piece I focused on the grain of fabric which is demonstrated by the stripe in the fabric. After creating the basic shirt pattern I cut the cap off the sleeve and made a pattern for 2 bows, a small one and a bigger one.

For Integrated Studio we are working on our final collection, The Body as Narrative. I have decided to create a story based off the Sirens. The Sirens are three dangerous bird women who lured men to shipwreck using their music. Here are some of the images I have begun collecting.

Here is some of the digital stuff I did this week. I concentrated on filling my flats with the prints I designed and developing an engineered print. 

I'm So Excited

I am loving life right now. I can't believe Helmut Lang mentioned me!! This makes me so excited beyond belief. I've mentioned before that I love their brand and that I drool over their drapes. Their clothing is gorgeous! Asymmetrical clothing made of micromodals, silks, and leathers are incredible combined in an outfit. I am so happy!!

My Kind of Girl

Here are five looks from my new Body as Canvas collection. I was inspired by the deconstruction of a white shirt and predators. The idea of ripping up a classic white shirt led to me thinking about predators ripping into their prey. For this collection the use of hard and "crunchy" fabrics were rendered because my girl has a cool-girl attitude and is very edgy. Of course I used Copic markers and Prismacolor pencils to illustrate my figures!
