Struts That Thing Around

Marni SS12

An illustration I did from a look of Marni's SS12 show. I think the flounce could be more pronounced. But,I'm happy with her hair and face!

Good Life

Room from the MET

The Loved One

WGSN Image

Marie Claire Italia, May 2011

Today I visited the MET and saw the Palais Paar rooms that were on view. My professor asked the class to think about mobility and territory and why were these items displayed in a room vs a display case. She also told us to think about authentic objects vs replicas. As a groggy student, this was very thought provoking (but interesting) for a 9 AM class. The other images included reminded me of the feeling I received from the Palais Paar display: romantic, luxurious, and opulent.

We Live on Fascination

Helmut Lang SS12

Here are two illustrations I have done from Helmut Lang's SS12 show! I haven't finished the yellow dress yet but I think it's understandable that the fabric is sheer. LOVE their designs. I wish I had an unlimited budget so I could buy all of their clothing! Do you guys like my new croquis? I think they look so much better now, especially their faces! They're less pointy and "alien-like." Now they look like edgy women!

This week I'm going to be developing prints so I can make patterns. Here are two that I have made so far.

Walk the Line

I'm working on my creative design exercises and developing color palettes this week!  Here are some of my stripes and plaid studies that I worked on in class today. I tried to vary the line weight and various colors.

I'm working on developing a new croquis! Here's a sneak peek!

You Raise Me Up

AHHH!! NO WAY!! I'm being followed by Copic on twitter and they mentioned me!!! I freaked out when I checked my account today! How lucky am I?! I am obsessed with Copic markers! They create the most beautiful colors and layer fantastically on top of one another! And when I combine them with colored pencil the possibilities for color and texture are endless! Thank you so much for taking notice of me Copic! I am now reenergized for the rest of the month! Please continue to watch my growth as a designer through my blog!

Happily Ever After

On Sunday, October 16th, I volunteered to help at the Yumi Katsura Bridal Show. I helped  usher and dress models and I had a lot of fun helping backstage! Stephanie, the girl in the first photo, was incredibly kind and funny. She made jokes and danced a bit as the show came to an end. All of the girls were beautiful with their teased hair and romantic dresses.

Made in America

My pattern with curved lines!

Deconstructed white shirt

My pattern's main purpose is to hide the side dart by drawing curves through the apex point. Then I cut out my pattern in muslin and pinned it together. It's like the technique Shingo Sato uses to create his garments. Underneath is a video demonstrating his incredible skills!

With the white shirt I played around with form and shape. I took off the sleeves and collar and draped it on the dress form (which I have named Karlie). Do you like the forms I created so far? I think I'm going to buy another shirt and play around with volume next time.

All I See

Andreass Jodin

Jeffertitti's Nile by Jacqueline di Mila

S Magazine May 2011

I've recently been really attracted to transparent and sheer fabrics. I think that the idea of allowing light to pass through one object so objects behind can be seen creates a more dynamic setting. I love transparent objects because being able to see through something is a superpower I wish I had. I also wish that my brain could inhale information as fast as I can inhale chocolate. It's just so yummy!

The images are from StyleSight and WGSN.

As I celebrate my birthday this weekend I am thinking about my life before I came to Parsons and when I swam for a good chunk of my life. I remember being enveloped by water and always absorbing the chlorine smell. When I found these pictures they really gave me the feeling of submersion in clothing and smell.

What You Get Is (NOT) What You See

My first project for Integrated Design is now complete! I was inspired by
volume and mass in various forms as well as dash marks, which I incorporated into my
illustrations as zippers. The idea is if the garment is zipped or unzipped the
garment would take on a different silhouette. After doing my finishes I
made a pattern for one of the pieces in the collection. It is an asymmetric top
which opens on an angle and releases a drape from the inside.

Sorry I didn't scan the illustrations! It was collected so the illustration image was taken with an iphone4 and the bottom ones with a nikon s8000.

I'm in Transit

WGSN

Gian Carlo Drueco

Pop SS10

Some more WGSN images I am attracted to! I've been missing nature which is absent from NYC's concrete jungle. I think I'll be making a trip to Central Park soon to spend some time by the lake.
